I’m Liz – and if you haven’t already guessed, I’ve got quite the sweet tooth. I’m a mama of three, living on a farm in middle-of-nowhere Indiana. Here at buuckfarmsbakery.com I share decadent dessert recipes along with all of my tips and tricks to help you take your deserts to the next level. I am also a full time food photographer and recipe developer working with brands to create content for their social media and advertising needs.
Baking has always been a passion of mine, but I never really considered that I could turn it into a career. Sure, I dreamed of one day owning a storefront filled with all of my sweet creations, but that seemed so far fetched and unrealistic in my tiny little town. I even ran a home bakery out of my own kitchen for several years, offering everything from designer sugar cookies, to cupcakes, to huge intricate wedding cakes.
Along the way, while running my home bakery, I sort of fell into food photography. After all, I had to photograph my creations in order to market myself and attract new customers. I soon began to fall in love with the photography side of my business and began to make the shift into recipe development and food photography.
A little more about me…
I graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in social work, then worked as a family social worker for 5 years before we decided to start a family. I had every intention of going back to work after my maternity leave, but one look at Lila once she was born was enough to know I’d never work a 9-5 ever again. I’m not sure what it was, but I just knew I didn’t have it in me to leave her 5 days a week. I was raised by self-employed parents who worked so hard but also had the flexibility in their schedules to be present with us as much as possible, and I think that has a lot to do with why I struggled with the typical work week. It was important for me to be able to create a career where I would have control of my schedule so that I could be at every soccer game, dance recital, and school play.
I’m a mama to three little ones who keep me quite busy these days. Lila is already six (BRB crying) and she’s killing it at her first year of Kindergarten. Surprisingly enough, she’s not a huge desserts fan and she’s happiest with a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream or a handful of chocolate chips. Griffin is three, and he on the other hand LOVES dessert. He can tell when I’m whipping up a batch of buttercream and comes running with a spoon for a taste. He will try just about anything I make and he’s a total mood. And our newest addition Margot is only three months old, so the jury is still out on whether she’ll be a dessert lover or not. I’ll keep you posted.
Their dad is my high school sweetheart and the “farm” behind Buuck Farms Bakery. He grew up on his family farm about 5 miles from my childhood home, but we didn’t meet until he needed to copy my chemistry and I needed to copy his animal science homework in the 10th grade. He’s the most hardworking guy I know and the reason I get to stay home with my babies and make alllllll the baked goods. So really he’s the MVP of this blog.
The sweet treats you’ll find here are classic and down-home (courtesy of my Midwest roots) but elevated just a touch so that they’re sure to impress.
I’m so happy that you found me in my little corner of the internet and I hope you find lots of sweet treats here that make their way to your table. If you need me, I’ll be browning some butter.
